Letterpress Typographic Design by Alan Kitching

In a time where most typography is created digitally, designers, artists, and printmakers can draw a lot of inspiration from the handcrafted appearance of traditional letterpress printing. A real luminary in this field is Alan Kitching. Having worked as graphic designer, typographer, letterpress printmaker and teacher, Kitching is internationally renowned for his expressive use of letterpress type, process and materials in creating typographic designs for publishing, advertising and his own limited edition prints and ‘Broadside’ publications.

Web Design in the Arab World

Stretching from west coast of northern Africa across to Qatar, Oman and the United Arab Emirates in the Middle East, the Arab World includes 25 countries and territories with a combined population of more than 358 million. With the Arabic language as connecting element, this expansive region features not only a deep and rich tradition of calligraphy but also in some aspects a different approach to web design.

Smashing Magazine published a very interesting article about Web Design in the Arab World including interviews with Arab web designers and an expansive showcase.

Arabic Typography by Muiz Anwar

Here are some nice artworks based on a new Arabic typeface designed at Font Shop International headquarters in Berlin by Muiz Anwar. Muiz Anwar, born and raised in Manchester, UK, started to explore the arabic roots only after the events of 09/11 (to read the full story about the background of his work, check out the Q&A with him by Ibraheem Youssef).

Unfortunately, I couln’t find any evidence if the typeface is already finished or still under development. If you know more about it, please let me know.
